Turn down "Ninenzaka," a street crowded with tourists, and walk a short distance to reach the entrance of Jugyuan.
Just a short walk away from the middle of Kyoto's most popular tourist spot, you will be surrounded by a noiseless silence here.

Jugyuan was built in 1908 as a villa of Kichijiro Shimizu, a money changer in Osaka.
After the villa of Kichijiro Shimizu, "Kodaiji Doi" ran a fine Japanese restaurant for over 60 years,
but in 2017, the Tokyo company Hiramatsu opened the new Jugyuan, which is still in operation.
The garden was created by Jihei Ogawa VII in 1928.

The three-dimensional landscape utilizing the slope and the seasonal trees adding color to the landscape is
one of the most beautiful gardens not only in Japanese restaurants, but in all of Japan
.

The window frame becomes a picture frame, and the view of the garden becomes as beautiful as if it were a painting.
In Japanese gardens, there are many examples of daring to create a "demarcation" to
make the garden look larger or to emphasize its beauty cut out like a painting.

In one corner of the garden, a tea garden (roji)-like area has been created.
The beauty of Japan is concentrated in this area,
with its bridge-pile shaped handbasins, beautiful moss, and wonderfully shaped old stones.

In front of the garden, a magnificent masonry structure is built using the slope of the cliff.
The beauty of Japanese gardens is not only "graceful,"
but in some places, gardens are created to represent the harshness of nature as it is.

The garden of Jugyuan shown here is a part of the whole.
I was not able to take pictures because there were other guests at the time of my visit,
but next time I would definitely like to see the view from the hall and the open space around the tea ceremony room.
Although I have focused only on the description of the garden here,
it goes without saying that the food was excellent and the service was of the highest quality and hospitality.
